Welcome!

Mary Murphy is an imaginative painter who is driven by the strong connection she feels for the landscape.  She finds it exciting to paint en plein air (French for "in the open air") because she can capture the spirit of the locale and express that spirit on canvas and, hopefully, connect with the viewer.  She has developed a style that uses bright colors and strong lines to blend realism with abstract expressionism in a delightful and playful manner.

She loves traveling to many and varied locations for inspiration.  She has been to Texas, near Austin, for the quiet tree studded landscape.  In Montana, she was thrilled by the spectacular mountains each day as she rode her horse to the appointed area and painted. Later, a wonderful dinner and cozy lodge awaited the hardy plein air painter.  The mountains of North Carolina also provided inspiration for this creative artist in week long classes where the energy was high and creativity abounded.  Mexico provided a glimpse of different types of trees and landscape for this abstract artist.  Florida, the land of palm trees and exotic flowers also had its unique challenges for this original oil painter.  All these venues provided inspiration for this abstract expressionist artist who loves painting landscapes en plein air in a contemporary manner.
